A Webinar Series: Decent Work and Responsible Business Conduct entitled “Encouraging Quality Independent Internships to Achieve Responsible Business Practices” was hosted on October 1, 2024 by APINDO and the International Labour Organization (ILO). From 10:00 to 12:00, a Zoom webcast was used to host this webinar. This session was conducted by Arief Budiman (Deputy Chair of UMKM APINDO), along with the  presenters Dede Sudono (METI Skills Project Coordinator), Lispiyatmini (HR Director of PT. Jotun Indonesia), and Wanda Abubakar (Senior HR Director of Infineon Technologies). Ignatius Adrian Mastan, the OJT Coordinator of Bunda Mulia University, participated in this webinar.

This webinar covered topics such as creating programs for upskilling and reskilling employees, expanding work-based learning and apprenticeships, raising skill levels in relation to wages, and career development. It also covered how to increase productivity and competitiveness of a strong workforce at the corporate level. According to Ms. Dede Shinta, there are four new trends that will affect how people work in the future: Technology Revolution, Green Wave, Demographic Change and the Need for Lifelong Learning.

Artificial Intelligence, Information Technology, Digital Literacy, Technology Proficiency, and Adaptability are all components of the Technology Revolution. Retraining and new green occupations are made possible by the Green Wave, which incorporates sustainable practices that raise the demand for green skills in resource management, environmental protection, and renewable energy. The potential effects of demographic change on the skills required by an aging workforce and the skills required to fulfill rising demand are both noteworthy. In order to encourage the development of sustainable skills for a workforce prepared for the future, flexible education and training—from online courses to micro-credentials—are essential components of lifelong learning.

It is expected that by attending this webinar, participants will gain an understanding of how to implement quality independent internships to achieve responsible business practices. This can be achieved by encouraging quality apprenticeships and giving workers access to responsible business training, including training that is included in vocational curricula.
